The Next Challenge for Media & Journalism, managed by the American Public Media Group (APMG), is a competition designed to drive media innovation, support media startups, and fund visionary media founders. This initiative aims to promote groundbreaking ideas in the industry by providing financial backing to early-stage startups that are reimagining journalism, news technology, and open-source intelligence.
In 2025, the competition will award six prizes totaling $200,000 to five early-stage media startups. Each division winner can receive a grant of up to $50,000, with an additional $25,000 Grand Prize available. The competition focuses on three main divisions: the Future of Local Journalism, NewsTech, and Open-Source Intelligence.
